GapInc.com Wins Webby

Corporate website named an Official Honoree in the Web's most prestigious awards program.

San Bruno, CA -- May 12, 2006 -- GapInc.com, Gap Inc.'s corporate website, has been recognized as an Official Honoree in the 10th Annual Webby Awards.

Produced by Corporate Communications in partnership with IT, including Duane Nason, GapInc.com was among some stiff competition: This year's Webbys -- considered by many "the Oscars of the Internet" -- received a record 5,500 entries from 40 countries. Fewer than 20 percent of entrants were distinguished as Official Honorees -- websites and teams that demonstrated a standard of excellence.

"This recognition is a terrific tribute to the hard work and creative vision of the team who relaunched GapInc.com so successfully last summer, and who continue to keep the site fresh and relevant for external audiences," said Jill Nash, VP of Corporate Communications.

Established in 1996 during the Web's infancy, The Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 500-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities that includes musicians Beck and David Bowie, Oracle chairman Larry Ellison, Body Shop president Anita Roddick and "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening. Members also include writers and editors from publications such as The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe, and WallPaper.

The Academy evaluates websites based on six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience.

And the Webby isn't the only honor bestowed upon GapInc.com lately. In 2005, the site received a Standard of Excellence Award from the Web Marketing Association; the WMA's WebAwards, established in 1997, is the annual award competition that judges corporate Web site development against an increasing Internet standard and against peer sites within their industry.
